24th Annual Awards Banquet - May 19, 2006
The Chinatown Public Safety Association (CPSA)
celebrated over 24 years of servicing the community.
Honorees included U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in
Charge Anthony Chapa, LAPD Captains Andrew Smith &
Jodi Wakefield, President of Lung Kong Tin Yess
Association Mr. Joe Chiu, and President of CCBA Michael
Cheung. The event also included a scholarship
presentation and other special award presentations.
CPSA is dedicated to improving Chinatown and the
sorrounding areas. Over the years CPSA has expanded its
outreach from local communities to reaching out to
communities on a national level through press events
and partnership with different law enforcement
agencies.
Pedestrian Safety - March 16, 2006
The Chinatown Public Safety Association (CPSA) hosted a
presentation with LAPD at the Ultimate Health Services
in Grand Plaza to educate seniors about pedestrian
safety.
IRS Media Roundtable - February 15, 2006
The Chinatown Public Safety Association (CPSA)
partnered with the IRS to host a roundtable for the
Asian Press to discuss tax scams, protecting oneself,
and how to access free tax services & benefits
during the current tax filing season. The presentations
included remarks by (1) IRS Special Agent Andrew Lee
(speaks Korean) on “Dirty Dozen” tax scams, tax
preparer fraud, and how to report suspected tax fraud
activity, (2) IRS Tax Specialist Yufen Shen (speaks
Mandarin) on electronic filing and Free File of federal
taxes through the IRS website at www.irs.gov, and (3) IRS Tax
Specialist Tina Su (speaks Vietnamese) on how
more members of the Asian community could take
advantage of the valuable Earned Income Tax
Credit and where to go for free tax help.
Law Enforcement Recruitment & Safety Fair - Feb. 4-5, 2006
The Chinatown Public Safety Association (CPSA) in
conjunction with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce's
(CCC) Chinese New Year Festival hosted a Law
Enforcement Recruitment and Safety Fair, exhibiting
booths from various law enforcement agencies.
Participants of the fair included the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), California Highway Patrol (CHP), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Secret Service (USSS), U.S. Marshals (USMS), U.S. Postal Inspectors (UPIS), Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD), Department of General Services (DGS), and others.

LAPD Asian Recruitment Exposition - January 26, 2006
The Chinatown Public Safety Association (CPSA)
partnered with the LAPD to host an Asian Recruitment
Exposition to educate the Asian Community about the
LAPD and recruitment of Asian officers. By June 2006,
LAPD will hire 400 new police officers and seeks to
recruit more officers from Asian and other ethnic
backgrounds. The presentation included remarks by Chief
Jim McDonnell, Commander Terry Hara, and others
followed by demonstrations given by their most elite
units including Special Weapons & Tactics, K-9, and
Bomb Squad.
