Chinatown Public Safety Association
Mission: To improve the quality of life and reduce
crime in Los Angeles Chinatown and the surrounding
areasby partnering with law enforcement, health and
safety organizations, public officials, community
residents, churches, and businesses to provide services,
information and programs to enhance public safety.
The tragic deaths of two Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers on duty and the dramatic increase of crime in Los Angeles Chinatown led to the concept of a community police substation, the Chinatown Public Safety Association (CPSA). The Chinese American Citizens Alliance (CACA), the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA), and the Los Angeles Chinatown community joined together and dedicated themselves to making their area a safer place. After beginning operations in 1983 on the second floor office space donated by the Phoenix Bakery in Los Angeles Chinatown, CPSA was able to move into its own location at 823 North Hill Street in 1991 thanks to the efforts of the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, Community Development Department, Jimmy Joe, Fay Gee, and the "Friends of CPSA".
CPSA, a 501(c)3 non profit organization, continues to be a firm leader of public safety through the ongoing partnership with LAPD and the community to help reduce crime in the Los Angeles Chinatown and surrounding areas. CPSA has made it a priority to ensure public safety and has since its inception reached out to audiences well beyond the local area. The LAPD and United States Secret Service have recognized CPSA for the extraordinary work and exceptional outreach. CPSA's current programs and activities range in partnerships with LAFD, CHP, USCIS, USICE, Homeland Security, Postal Inspectors, FBI, ATF, DEA, Electronic Crimes Task Force, Marshals, LASD, IRS, SEC, and Commerce Department. In recent years, millions have been educated and informed through organized events with CPSA and its law enforcement partners. With the help of CPSA's Asian Media partners, these events are broadcasted on television, the internet, the radio and other media, and published in newspapers and magazines in numerous languages.
In addition to the superior programs and partnerships with law enforcement, CPSA continues to provide outstanding public safety services locally. CPSA operates Monday through Friday and offers assistance in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin at the 823 North Hill Street police service center location for information seekers and victims of theft, domestic violence, and other crimes. A CPSA security patrol of volunteers regularly cover the local area to ensure safety and keep informed of crime patterns. Moreover, CPSA strives to maintain a safe community through continued efforts to educate the public through programs, events, and services. CPSA was formed on the strong backbone of the united community dedicated to public safety and continues to pioneer strongly with its growing range of supporters with the same vision of making our world a safer place.
CPSA relies on donations to meet operational expenses to continue to combat crime and expand public safety outreach. Your support enables CPSA to provide services such as assistance for crime victims, outreaches to school children and seniors, disaster preparedness, crime prevention and more. We hope you too will join the partnership and make an investment in public safety.
Contributions to CPSA are tax deductible.
Volunteers are needed to conduct CPSA programs.
CPSA is funded by the community and is partly funded by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Community Development Department.
